Thank you, Kornelia, for your honest reply and sharing a bit about yourself. White privilege and cultural appropriation can sometimes feel like blaming and shaming, but in my experience, when those feelings arise, they are signs that there's a need to go deeper and explore them. For many white people, realizing the extent to which they enjoy privilege around whiteness can inspire incredible feelings of guilt and shame. In my opinion, the topics are very healing for those who have faced systemic racism and the appropriation of their cultures without permission or respect for their source. But it sounds like you're at a different place in your journey, where you're working through self-love and guilt, so perhaps those topics are less salient to you, at least right now. In my experience, we often have to do some very deep inner work on our selves and our family life before we step more fully into the work of social change.
